The Runarsson ash conveyor is designed for transporting wet ash. Ash from the boiler grate falls into the conveyor, which is filled with water. The water serves as a coolant for the ash, and as a water lock for the oven. Cooled ash is moved along the bottom of the conveyor to the ash container or ash storage by means of scrapers attached to the transport chain. As the ash moves along the conveyor, excess water is drained in the oblique section of the conveyor during its transport.

The conveyor is produced in two standard widths: 560mm and 860mm. The length of the ash conveyor can be adjusted depending on customer requirements.

Biomass combustion primarily generates two distinct types of ash—bottom ash and fly ash—which differ based on where they are collected and their physical characteristics.
• Bottom Ash (BBA): This is the coarser, heavier residue that settles at the base of the combustion chamber or falls through the grate. It typically has a sandy or stony texture and is more chemically stable than fly ash.
• Fly Ash (FA): These are very fine, powder-like particles carried by flue gases. They are captured by emission control devices like electrostatic precipitators or baghouses. Fly ash is more chemically reactive and often contains higher concentrations of heavy metals and dioxins compared to bottom ash.
Runarsson Wet Ash Conveyors are primarily suitable for transport of Bottom Ash with particle size up to 100x100x100mm. The conveyors can also transport a mixture of BBA and FA, as long as the volume of the FA is no more than 25% of the total volume of the ash coming into the conveyor. It must also be considered that Fly Ash can in some cases accelerate corrosion of the steel parts of the conveyor.
